PTC India Initiates Power Delivery From Nikachhu Hydro Plant To Assam

According to the statement, PTC India commenced power supply from Nikachhu Hydroelectric Project, Bhutan, to Assam under the long-term PPA

Power trading solutions provider PTC India announced on Thursday the commencement of power supply to Assam from the Nikachhu Hydroelectric Project in Bhutan. The execution of a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Bhutan and a power supply agreement with Assam Power Distribution Co Ltd (APDCL) in 2014 paved the way for this development.

According to the statement released, PTC India has initiated power supply from the Nikachhu Hydroelectric Project, Bhutan, to Assam as part of the long-term PPA. The Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of PTC India, Rajib K Mishra, highlighted that this move aligns with the state’s need for uninterrupted, reliable and cost-effective power supply to meet the growing demand. The 118 MW (2×59 MW) hydro project also has provisions to supply power during peak hours, addressing the state’s peak demand requirements.

Bilateral energy trade remains a crucial aspect of the integrated regional energy market, emphasising the strong relations between India and Bhutan. With a history of India supporting Bhutan in hydropower development, this partnership is now being further strengthened.

Expressing gratitude to various stakeholders, including the Ministry of Power, Central Electricity Authority (CEA), National Load Dispatch Centre (NLDC), CTUIL and DGPC, PTC acknowledged their support in facilitating the power supply from the Nikachhu Hydroelectric Project to Assam.
