1,219 Industrial Units Categorised As Most Polluting In Raigad

As per government norms, industrial units falling into the red category are subject to penalties and are initially instructed to halt production

A recent report from the finance and statistics department of the administration reveals that out of 3,393 industries in Maharashtra’s Raigad district, a significant 1,219 are identified as the most polluting. The industries in the region have been categorised into four groups—red, orange, green and white—based on their emission levels.

Breaking down the statistics, the data indicates that in Panvel, out of 1,870 factories, 704 fall into the red category, signifying high pollution levels. Following closely, Khalapur has 249 industries in the red category. In contrast, Poladpur, with a smaller industrial presence, has only 11 units, none of which are classified in the red category.

According to government norms, industrial units falling into the red category are subject to penalties and are initially instructed to halt production. If they fail to comply, power and water supplies are disconnected and a closure notice is issued, emphasising the need for stringent measures to address environmental concerns and curb pollution in the region.
