Special Plantation Drive Introduced In J-K’s Doda To Increase Green Cover

The drive is primarily to increase the green cover of the high-altitude meadows, which are becoming immensely popular and attracting tourists in large numbers

Recently, the Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir introduced a unique plantation programme called “Green Earth, Happy Earth” to improve the ecological appeal of high-altitude tourism attractions. The campaign was led by Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Chander Shekhar, with personnel from the Bhadarwah forest division’s Neeru and Chirala ranges taking the lead. At 7,800 feet above sea level, the high-altitude meadow known as Jaie Valley served as the drive’s focal point. During the campaign, four chinar trees and 500 cedar saplings were planted.

The joint approach to environmental protection was demonstrated by the involvement of Superintendent of Police Vinod Sharma and Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Bhaderwah Dilmir Choudhary. Shekhar says the main goal of the effort is to increase the amount of greenery in the high-altitude meadows, which are becoming more and more popular with tourists. Recognising the growing significance of eco-tourism in the sector, he underlined the aim to improve visitor experiences through the addition of stately cedar and chinar trees to the landscape.

Dilmir Choudhary, ADC Bhaderwah, expressed hope that the drive will encourage institutional plantations, which would greatly aid in the repair of the surrounding environment and ecosystem. In a New Year’s address, Choudhary urged educational institutions and offices to take a similar tack, asking people to a resolve to take care of at least one tree and plant seedlings by the year 2024. This community-based project promotes a peaceful coexistence between tourism and environmental preservation and is in line with the region’s larger trend towards sustainable practices.
