Green Hydrogen Will Play A Key Role In India’s Energy Transition: CSIR-NCL Director

Green hydrogen—produced through processes with substantially low carbon emissions—will play a key role in India’s energy transition, particularly in the sectors of industry and heavy-duty commercialisation

Green Hydrogen, characterized by its production through processes with significantly low carbon emissions, is poised to be a pivotal element in India’s energy transition, as emphasized by Ashish Lele, Director of CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory. Delivering a keynote lecture titled ‘India’s Energy Status and the Possibility of Using Green Hydrogen Fuel in the Country’ at the CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), Lele underscored the critical role of green hydrogen in driving the transition, particularly in industrial and heavy-duty commercial sectors. The CCMB release quoted Lele affirming the importance of this sustainable energy source in India’s broader energy strategy.

According to media reports, reflecting on the significance of the occasion, CCMB Director Vinay Nandicoori remarked on the institute’s commitment to its founding principles, stating, “This is a day for us, as an institute, to remember everything that CCMB stands for.” He highlighted CCMB’s establishment as a platform for scientific innovation grounded in societal realities. The event, marking the 8th consecutive Founder’s Day celebration at CCMB, featured engagements such as PhD scholars connecting with institute alumni, fostering a spirit of collaboration and knowledge exchange, the release added.
