India’s Renewable Energy Push Gets Boost With Massive Solar & Storage Project

The project is expected to generate an estimated 243.53 million units of energy annually and reduce carbon footprint by 4.87 million tonnes in 25 years, contributing significantly to India’s renewable energy goals

Tata Power Solar Systems (TPSSL) has announced the successful commissioning of a significant solar PV project in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh, with a capacity of 100 MW, along with a utility scale battery energy storage system (BESS) of 120 MWh. The project, valued at Rs 945 crore, was secured on an EPC basis from the Solar Energy Corporation of India Ltd. (SECI) in December 2021.

The scope of the project encompassed engineering, design, supply, construction, erection, testing, O&M, and commissioning. TPSSL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Power Renewable Energy Ltd. (TPREL), proudly claims the commissioning of the largest solar and BESS project in the country.

Despite facing challenges such as unsuitable soil conditions and a remote location during project execution, the TPSSL team demonstrated exceptional project management and engineering skills. Utilizing cutting-edge Bifacial Mono Crystalline technology for 239,685 modules, the project was completed within the stipulated timeframe.

Deepesh Nanda, CEO and Managing Director of TPREL, expressed confidence in the project’s success, emphasizing its potential to provide round-the-clock green energy and accelerate India’s renewable energy transition through innovative solutions.

With an estimated annual energy generation of 243.53 million units and a projected reduction of 4.87 million tonnes in carbon footprint over 25 years, the project aligns significantly with India’s renewable energy objectives. R P Gupta, Chairman & MD of SECI, lauded TPSSL’s timely delivery of the project, emphasizing its contribution to India’s energy transition vision.
