Malabar Group, WHO India Partner On Child And Maternal Nutrition Project

Nurturing Beginnings’ initiative to improve health and development in disadvantaged urban communities

Malabar Group has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Health Organisation (WHO) India to launch Nurturing Beginnings; a new corporate social responsibility (CSR) project aimed at improving maternal and child nutrition in disadvantaged urban communities.

The initiative, implemented through the Malabar Charitable Trust, will provide free nutritious food and medical support for mothers and children, targeting the critical first 1,000 days from conception to early childhood. Initially introduced in Delhi, the project is expected to expand across other states.

The MoU was signed at the Group’s headquarters in Kozhikode in the presence of Roderico H. Ofrin, WHO Representative to India; B. Muhammad Asheel, National Professional Officer, WHO; and Malabar Group leadership including Chairman M.P. Ahammad and Asher O, Managing Director, India Operations.

Ahammad said the initiative extended the reach of the Group’s flagship Hunger Free World programme. “Only when children receive proper nutrition from conception through their early years can they grow to their full potential, both mentally and physically. By collaborating with WHO India, Malabar Group is acknowledging its responsibility in shaping a healthier society,” he said.

Ofrin commended the Group for initiating what he described as a vital project in securing a healthier generation, while Asheel noted its potential to significantly benefit children in economically and socially backward communities.
