Decathlon To Host 50+ Cleanup Events Nationwide For World Cleanup Day

Cleanup drives to cover beaches, forests, lakes and playgrounds with support from NGOs, authorities and volunteers

Decathlon will mark the 8th edition of World Cleanup Day in India with more than 50 events nationwide, engaging over 6,000 participants in efforts to clean and protect diverse landscapes.

The initiative, which follows last year’s campaign involving 3,600 participants and collection of over 7,000 kilograms of waste, will span beaches, forests, lakes and neighbourhood playgrounds. The events are being organised with the support of local authorities, non-governmental organisations and Decathlon volunteers.

The company said the cleanup drives are part of its broader sustainability strategy, which integrates circularity into its business model. This includes repair services, buyback and resale programmes, and its Second Life initiative aimed at reducing product waste while improving affordability and access to sports.

Decathlon stated that waste collected during the drives will be processed by specialised partners, with priority given to recycling and the remainder directed to energy recovery. By linking sport with environmental responsibility, the company seeks to promote collective action through activities such as beach cleanups, hike plogging and playground cleanups.

The campaign, according to the company, reflects its commitment to a long-term goal of giving purpose to all operational waste through recycling and scientific disposal.
