Rajasthan To Host India’s Largest Solar-battery Project At Pugal
Rajasthan’s state-run RSDCL to develop solar-battery park aimed at achieving energy self-reliance
Bikaner’s Pugal Solar Park is set to emerge as India’s largest integrated solar and battery storage facility, marking a milestone in the country’s clean energy transition. The park will combine 2,450 megawatts of solar generation capacity with a 5,000 megawatt-hour battery energy storage system (Bess), enabling round-the-clock power supply by storing surplus energy produced during daylight hours.
The project is being developed by Rajasthan Solar Park Development Company (RSDCL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Rajasthan Renewable Energy Corporation (RRECL). The electricity generated will be used for domestic consumption within the state, advancing Rajasthan’s goal of energy self-reliance.
Spread across 4,780 hectares of government land, the park has completed all land-related formalities, including mutation and title clearance, ensuring a smooth rollout for investors. Built under a plug-and-play model, it already features internal infrastructure such as roads, drainage systems, boundary fencing, and site access to facilitate early commencement of operations.
The Rajasthan Rajya Vidyut Prasaran Nigam (RVPN), in collaboration with RSDCL, is setting up 765/400 kV grid substations and transmission lines to evacuate power efficiently. Its proximity to the green energy corridor will ensure seamless grid integration.
Officials estimate that the park will generate over a thousand direct and indirect jobs while preventing more than two lakh tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions each year. With full power offtake secured by the state government and single-window clearances through RSDCL, the Pugal Solar Park is positioned to become a flagship model for large-scale renewable energy development in India.
