JSW Energy To Commission 5 GWh Battery Assembly Unit In Pune
Company to bolster domestic clean energy manufacturing with Pune-based 5 GWh battery unit and expanding green hydrogen operations
JSW Energy is preparing to operationalise its 5 gigawatt-hour (GWh) battery assembly facility in Pune, Maharashtra, by the third quarter of the 2025-26 financial year, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen domestic manufacturing capacity in the clean energy value chain.
The company’s Joint Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Sharad Mahendra, informed investors that the upcoming facility will cater primarily to Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and help the company meet domestic content requirements once such norms are enforced. Trial runs for JSW Energy’s green hydrogen project at Vijayanagar, with a capacity of 3,800 tonnes per annum (TPA), are also nearing completion, with commissioning expected shortly.
The Pune facility forms part of JSW Energy’s larger ambition to establish itself as a key player in the energy storage segment. The company currently has a total locked-in storage capacity of 29.4 GWh, including 25.2 GWh undersigned storage agreements.
During the July–September quarter, JSW Energy reported a 59 per cent year-on-year increase in total revenue to Rs 5,361 crore, compared with Rs 3,459 crore in the same period last year. Its consolidated net profit, however, fell 17 per cent year-on-year to Rs 705 crore, against Rs 853 crore in the second quarter of 2024-25.
JSW Energy has set a target to achieve 30 GW of generation capacity and 40 GWh of energy storage capacity by 2030, reflecting its push towards integrating
renewable generation, storage, and emerging technologies such as green hydrogen within a single clean energy portfolio.
