Google has released an artificial intelligence playbook aimed at helping organisations streamline and improve sustainability reporting, based on its own experience of using AI in environmental disclosures.

The company said corporate transparency remains critical, but reporting processes are often slowed by fragmented data systems and labour-intensive workflows. These challenges, it noted, can limit the time and capacity available for strategic work that supports long-term sustainability goals.

According to Google, the playbook reflects learnings from two years of integrating artificial intelligence into its internal environmental reporting. By open sourcing these insights, the company aims to help other organisations address similar bottlenecks and improve the efficiency and quality of their sustainability disclosures.

The AI Playbook for Sustainability Reporting is positioned as a practical toolkit focused on implementation rather than theory. It provides a structured framework to audit reporting processes, along with starter pack prompt templates for common sustainability tasks. The playbook also includes real-world examples showing how tools such as Gemini and NotebookLM can be used to validate claims and respond to information requests.

Google said the initiative is intended to support organisations seeking to modernise sustainability reporting while maintaining accuracy and transparency.
