Waaree Energies Becomes India’s Largest ALMM-approved Solar Module Maker

MNRE expands Waaree’s approved manufacturing capacity, strengthening domestic solar supply chain

Waaree Energies has emerged as India’s largest solar module manufacturer approved under the government’s Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), with its total domestic manufacturing capacity crossing the 20-gigawatt mark, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy.

As per the latest update to the ALMM list, Waaree’s manufacturing facility at Chikhli in Gujarat has been approved for a capacity of 16.444 GW. This takes the company’s overall solar module manufacturing capacity in India, including Indosolar, to 20.17 GW, consolidating its leadership position in the domestic solar manufacturing landscape.

The revised ALMM listing also includes a range of high-efficiency solar modules manufactured at the Chikhli plant, including G12R TOPCon, G12 TOPCon and G12 heterojunction technology (HJT) modules. These additions expand Waaree’s portfolio across advanced cell technologies aimed at utility-scale, commercial and industrial, and rooftop solar projects.

Sunil Rathi, executive director at Waaree Group, said the expanded ALMM approval marked a significant milestone for the company’s manufacturing journey. He said crossing 20 GW of domestic capacity reflected Waaree’s long-term commitment to strengthening India’s solar manufacturing base, improving efficiency benchmarks and supporting the country’s clean energy transition.

The development comes as India accelerates solar installations to meet its target of 500 GW of non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030, with domestic manufacturing seen as a key pillar of energy security, cost stability and quality assurance. Industry observers say the expanded ALMM capacity is likely to enhance supply chain confidence for developers and policymakers as solar deployment continues to scale up.
