Tata Power-DDL and IIT Roorkee Join Forces for Sustainable Energy Solutions

Strategic Partnership Aims to Foster Innovation and Optimal Energy Usage for a Greener Future

 

Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (Tata Power-DDL), a prominent electricity supplier serving a population of 7 million in North Delhi, has joined forces with the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Roorkee to embark on a collaborative journey aimed at researching and developing innovative energy solutions. This Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) underscores their commitment to exploring efficient energy utilisation, ultimately contributing to a greener and more sustainable future through the “Urja Arpan” initiative. The MoU was formally signed by  Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power-DDL, and Professor M.K. Singhal, Head of Department for Hydro & Renewable Energy at IIT Roorkee, in a ceremony held in New Delhi, attended by senior officials from both organisations.

 

This strategic partnership signifies the commencement of a transformative collaboration, driven by the exchange of knowledge and concerted efforts. The “Urja Arpan” initiative, led by the distribution company, aspires to motivate various stakeholders, including students from schools and colleges, residential and industrial associations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), and sustainability-focused institutions, to actively participate and initiate behaviors conducive to efficient energy usage, with a primary goal of environmental conservation.

 

The collaborative agreement is poised to accelerate Tata Power-DDL’s progress toward achieving a sustainable and energy-efficient future.

 

Ganesh Srinivasan, CEO of Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited, expressed his thoughts on the partnership, saying, “Our collaboration with IIT Roorkee signifies a harmonious blend of our experience and their academic brilliance, fostering a fertile ground for the emergence of pioneering research papers and inventive ideas within the realm of Urja Arpan. This partnership is a testament to the remarkable talent of our youth, driving us forward on our journey to a greener, more sustainable future.”

K. Singhal, Head of Department for Hydro & Renewable Energy at IIT Roorkee, also shared his enthusiasm for the alliance, stating, “We are very much enthusiastic about this MoU. We look forward to collaboratively working with Tata Power-DDL on practical problems leading to research relevant to Indian ground realities. We envision this research collaboration leading to a future with smarter and more efficient distribution grids. The Masters’ and Doctoral students working at the Department can gain valuable exposure and experience by working on real-world problems under this collaboration.”
