SJVN Gets Govt Approval To Form JVs For 8778 MW Hydro, Renewable Projects

Joint Ventures (JV) will execute the development of the 1,878 MW Oju Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh

With a total capacity of 8,778 MW across India and Nepal, state-owned power producer Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN) has received approval from the finance minister to form four joint venture entities for the development of hydro and renewable projects. SJVN will lead three of these initiatives and SJVN Green Energy (SGEL), the company’s wholly-owned subsidiary, will lead the fourth. SJVN’s proposal for these joint ventures has received approval from the Ministry of Finance’s Department of Investment and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) and the Ministry of Power.

SJVN and Maharashtra State Power Generation Company  are collaborating on a project to create 5,000 MW of renewable energy. This is one of the collaborations. SJVN, the Arunachal Pradesh government and Navyuga Engineering Company. are planning to work together again to create the 1,878 MW Oju Hydro Electric Project in Arunachal Pradesh. In a third partnership, SJVN will work with Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao (GMR) Energy Group and the Nepal Electricity Authority to execute the 900 MW Upper Karnali Hydroelectric Project in Nepal, with equal equity shares held by both parties.

The goal of the joint venture that SJVN’s wholly-owned subsidiary ‘SJVN Green Energy’  (SGEL) will form with Assam Power Development Company. is to create 1,000 MW of renewable energy projects in Assam. This calculated action fits nicely with SJVN’s larger diversification and expansion plans, which include Power Transmission, Power Trading, Hydro, Thermal, Solar and Wind Energy. SJVN has established itself as a prominent player in the Indian power market, with a project portfolio that exceeds 56,000 MW and a presence in both Nepal and Pan India.
