Adani Group’s Upcoming Rs 50,000 Crore Data Center To Run On Renewable Energy
Adani Group also intends to make deemed distribution investments to power the proposed data centre infrastructure
The Adani Group has declared a substantial investment of Rs 50,000 crore over the next decade to establish a 1 GW hyperscale data center in Maharashtra, as revealed by the conglomerate. Adani Enterprises , the group’s flagship company, formalised the collaboration with the Maharashtra government through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed at the World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani were present at the signing.
The hyperscale data infrastructure, strategically located in key areas like Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, and Pune, is slated to be powered entirely by renewable energy sources. This initiative is expected to not only fortify Maharashtra’s green energy infrastructure but also generate employment opportunities for approximately 20,000 individuals.
In addition to the substantial investment, the Adani Group has expressed its commitment to deemed distribution investments to sustain the proposed data center infrastructure. The Maharashtra government views this hyper scale project as economically and socially advantageous, aligning with its focus on promoting information technology-related infrastructure and services.
Mumbai, undergoing a rapid shift towards renewable energy, has become a global leader in clean energy adoption in just a few years. The city’s renewable energy share now surpasses that of major global counterparts. Mega projects like Adani Group’s hyper-scale data centre contribute significantly to Mumbai’s renewable energy journey, aligning with broader sustainability goals and supporting India’s ambitious renewable energy targets.
Highlighting Mumbai’s progress, Adani Electricity Mumbai supplied up to 38 per cent of the city’s electricity from renewable sources in 2023, with a target to reach 60 per cent by 2027. The Adani Group’s substantial investment in the hyperscale data centre reinforces its commitment to sustainable and technologically advanced infrastructure in Maharashtra.
