Birla Carbon To Bolster Global Presence With 240 kMT Carbon Black Capacity Expansion In India And Thailand
Sustainable carbon solutions leader responds to market demands, establishes state-of-the-art facilities for secure and innovative offerings
In a move to support market and customer growth, Birla Carbon, a leader in sustainable carbon solutions, has announced plans to expand its carbon black capacity by more than 240,000 metric tons (kMT). The expansion initiative is in alignment with customer expectations for sustainable, secure, and innovative solutions on a global scale.
The expansion will see the establishment of two new carbon black manufacturing sites in Niadupet, Andhra Pradesh, India, and Rayong, Thailand. John Loudermilk, President and Chief Executive Officer of Birla Carbon, expressed enthusiasm about the company’s augmented expansion plans, particularly in the fast-growing markets of India and Southeast Asia. He highlighted that the state-of-the-art factories in these locations aim to ensure a secure supply of industry-leading products, maintaining high standards of quality and service to facilitate customers in meeting their growth ambitions.
The two new facilities, each with an initial capacity of 120 kMT, are expected to become operational in 2025, with plans for future expansion to 240 kMT. These greenfield sites have been strategically chosen based on their locations, regional demand dynamics, and specific customer requirements. Birla Carbon is concurrently progressing with previously announced brownfield expansion plans in Hungary and the expansion of a post-treatment facility enhancing Specialty capacity at Patalganga, India.
Birla Carbon’s overarching goal is to complete its expansion initiatives while continuously assessing additional capacity requirements in different geographies. This approach aligns with the company’s purpose, “to Share the Strength,” driven by customer needs, industry trends, and a commitment to being a leading force in sustainability within the industry.
