Through self-help groups, ACC and the Adani Foundation are supporting rural women like Garima Tiwari to achieve financial independence and contribute to their communities

In a step towards promoting sustainable livelihoods and economic empowerment in rural India, ACC, a leading cement and building material company under the Adani Portfolio, and the Adani Foundation have launched an initiative to support rural women in Tikaria, Uttar Pradesh. Through the formation of self-help groups (SHGs), the collaboration is helping women like Garima Tiwari establish small businesses that contribute to community well-being and provide financial independence.

Garima Tiwari, a member of a local SHG, is one of the many success stories resulting from this initiative. With the support of the Adani Foundation, Garima received Rs. 60,000 in financial assistance, along with comprehensive training and exposure visits to learn about the reverse osmosis (RO) water purification process. She was also helped in securing additional funding, including Rs. 1 lakh from the LAXHMI SHG, Rs. 1.5 lakh from UP-NRLM, and a Rs. 3 lakh personal loan. With this financial backing, Garima launched a home-based RO water plant that supplies clean drinking water to the local markets in the Gouriganj area. Today, her business generates a steady income of Rs. 19,000 per month, significantly improving her financial stability.

Garima’s journey highlights the transformative potential of self-help groups and their role in empowering women in rural communities. The Adani Foundation’s support enables women like Garima to overcome financial barriers, gain financial independence, and actively contribute to the development of their local economies.

This initiative is part of ACC and the Adani Foundation’s broader commitment to fostering inclusive development and creating innovative livelihood opportunities. By collaborating with government programs and local social institutions, the Adani Foundation is helping rural women achieve sustainable livelihoods, contributing to the larger goal of economic growth and social upliftment across rural India.
