Tata Motors Partners With Maharashtra Government To Restore 1000 Water Bodies, Boost Rural Water Security
Tata Motors extends its water conservation initiative across 20 districts in Maharashtra, aiming to mitigate drought impacts and enhance water storage capacity in rural regions
In a step towards addressing water security in Maharashtra’s water-stressed regions, Tata Motors has declared a partnership with the Government of Maharashtra to restore 1000 water bodies across 20 districts. This initiative, designed to strengthen drought resilience, follows the success of their 2024 campaign, which rejuvenated 356 water bodies, creating a capacity of approximately 7000 million litres of water storage.
Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the state government, Tata Motors, in collaboration with Naam Foundation, will target water-scarce regions including Vidarbha and Marathwada. This partnership aims to address water scarcity by revitalizing water bodies in areas such as Amravati, Nagpur, Solapur, and more.
The rejuvenation process, part of the ‘Gal Mukt Dharan Gal Yukt Shivar Yojana’, includes de-siltation efforts that not only increase water storage but also improve soil fertility for farmers. With the active involvement of local communities, the project is expected to benefit thousands of farmers by improving water access and agricultural productivity.
Priya Khan, Officer on Special Duty – Chief Minister’s Office, Government of Maharashtra, praised the initiative, saying, “The success of this people’s movement, made possible by our partners like Tata Motors, helps us build long-term resilience against droughts and ensures water security for the rural population.”
The collaborative effort has proven impactful, with the restoration of 356 water bodies in 2024 increasing water availability for over 7,000 farmers, as per the press release.
Through this expanded partnership, Tata Motors and Naam Foundation are set to continue transforming Maharashtra’s water landscape, creating lasting improvements in the lives of rural communities.
