UFlex Calls For PLI Scheme Extension To Boost India’s Packaging Industry At PHDCCI Forum
At the ‘Advances in Packaging’ conference, UFlex’s Amit Shah advocates for government support to drive innovation, sustainability, and export growth in the packaging sector
UFlex, India’s multinational flexible packaging company, urged for expanded government support for the country’s packaging industry during a keynote address at the ‘Advances in Packaging’ conference held at PHDCCI House, New Delhi. The event, hosted by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), saw participation from industry leaders, government officials, and stakeholders, all focused on shaping the future of the packaging sector.
During the session, Amit Shah, Joint President – Flexible Packaging business at UFlex, delivered a keynote on “Challenges & Opportunities in the Future of Packaging in India.” He emphasized the critical role of the packaging industry in supporting India’s economic growth, food security, and sustainability efforts.
Shah called on the government to extend the successful Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme, which has benefited the food processing sector, to include packaging. He argued that such an extension would help unlock growth potential, drive innovation, and bolster the sector’s role in the food processing and export industries.
“The packaging industry is no longer just a secondary process; it is an essential enabler of food safety, product shelf life, and sustainability,” said Shah. “With the right government support, particularly through the extension of the PLI scheme in the packaging sector, we can unlock tremendous growth potential, drive innovation, and improve India’s global competitiveness.”
He also highlighted areas where government policies could provide further support, such as export incentives for packaging materials, regulatory backing for the use of recycled content, and the development of manufacturing hubs to create job opportunities.
