Gujarat Govt, NTPC Eye Joint Push In Green Energy

Discussions include green hydrogen, pumped storage, nuclear power projects

In a move aimed at deepening India’s clean energy drive, Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel met Gurdeep Singh, Chairman and Managing Director of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) on Wednesday to explore strategic collaboration in renewable and green energy sectors.

The meeting, held in Gandhinagar, focused on potential joint initiatives in renewable energy, green hydrogen, pumped storage systems, and nuclear power all aligned with India’s larger sustainability goals.

NTPC’s Singh underlined the public sector major’s expanding green energy portfolio and reaffirmed its intent to collaborate with progressive states like Gujarat on future ready projects. He also highlighted the scope to scale up infrastructure to match Gujarat’s ambitious clean energy targets.

Joining Singh was Sarit Maheshwar, Chief Executive Officer of NTPC Green Energy (NGEL), the company’s dedicated subsidiary for green projects. The presence of NGEL underpinned NTPC’s ongoing efforts to accelerate decarbonisation and strengthen partnerships at the state level.

Founded in 1975, NTPC is India’s largest power generation company and a Maharatna central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Power. While traditionally known for its thermal power assets, NTPC has made a decisive shift towards renewable energy, including solar, wind, green hydrogen, and nuclear power in recent years.

The discussions mark a renewed momentum between the Centre’s leading power generator and one of India’s most industrially advanced states, potentially setting the stage for high-impact green energy collaborations.
