PM Surya Ghar Scheme Benefits 16.5 Lakh Households

Over 58 lakh applications received on National Portal, says MNRE Minister Pralhad Joshi

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, informed the Lok Sabha on Wednesday (6 August) that 16,50,969 households have benefited under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana as of July 2025.

The scheme, launched in February 2024, aims to facilitate rooftop solar installations for one crore households by FY27. According to data shared by the minister, the National Portal has received 58,01,654 applications so far.

Maharashtra leads the rollout with 2,34,736 installations, followed closely by Gujarat (2,28,507) and Uttar Pradesh (1,20,866). However, progress remains uneven across the country. Northeastern states such as Arunachal Pradesh reported no installations, while Meghalaya and Sikkim registered only six and nine, respectively.

The PMSG:MBY is a flagship clean energy initiative under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), aimed at increasing residential solar adoption and reducing electricity costs for households.

In a related move, the MNRE also announced progress under the National Green Hydrogen Mission. The Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) completed its first auction under the Strategic Interventions for Green Hydrogen Transition (SIGHT) programme, securing a winning bid of Rs 255.75 per kilogram for green ammonia procurement.
