ICICI Bank Says ESG Initiatives Impacted 1.89 Cr Lives In FY25

CSR expenditure of the bank increases 54 per cent to Rs 801 Cr, focuses on women’s empowerment, healthcare, and environment 

According to its latest Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) Report, ICICI Bank impacted 1.89 crore beneficiaries through its social and environmental initiatives in FY2024-25. The Bank’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) spending increased by 54 per cent to Rs 801 crore, up from Rs 519 crore last year.

In FY25, Bank’s women empowerment initiative aided 10 lakh women via self-help groups, enhancing credit availability, financial education, and job opportunities in rural and semi-urban regions. Since its launch, the initiative has helped 1.1 crore women. More than 91 lakh individuals took part in projects focused on skill development, agriculture, and micro-enterprises designed to enhance rural incomes.

In the healthcare sector, ICICI Bank worked with 550 hospitals to support treatment for four hundred thousand people, increasing total healthcare beneficiaries to more than 2.5 million. Funding for the Tata Memorial Centre was increased to Rs 1,800 crore to establish three new cancer hospitals in India.

Environmental protection remained a primary objective, with the Bank developing a water conservation capacity of 3,387 crore litre, rejuvenating 17,453 water bodies and executing rainwater harvesting in 9,690 schools. During the year, it planted 12 lakh trees, bringing the cumulative total to 49 lakh since FY22. Major initiatives involved forest preservation in five states and revitalization of traditional Ahar-Pyne systems in Bihar, enhancing 11,973 acres of agricultural land. Watershed efforts in Maharashtra enhanced 1,295 acres, benefiting 370 families.

Regarding governance, ICICI Bank enhanced its ESG risk assessment tool across additional sectors, incorporated ESG criteria into corporate credit assessments, and launched sector-specific evaluations for challenging industries to decarbonize. The Bank targets carbon neutrality for Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by FY2032.
