India Surpasses 100 GW Solar PV Module Production Capacity

India’s solar manufacturing capacity leaps from 2.3 GW in 2014 to 100 GW in 2025

India has reached a significant landmark of 100 gigawatts (GW) of solar photovoltaic (PV) module manufacturing capacity listed under the Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM), showing a dramatic increase from merely 2.3 GW in 2014.

Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy Pralhad Joshi announced the accomplishment, stating that the milestone signifies the nation’s swift advancement towards an independent solar manufacturing ecosystem, aligning with the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat and the goal of 500 GW non-fossil capacity by 2030.

“This marks an impressive increase from merely 2.3 GW in 2014.” “Guided by the forward-thinking leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and groundbreaking programs such as the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for High-Efficiency Solar Modules, we are developing a strong, self-sufficient solar manufacturing ecosystem,” Joshi stated in a message on X.

The government has been promoting domestic manufacturing by employing a combination of incentives and protectionist strategies, such as the PLI scheme, to establish a fair environment for Indian manufacturers and enhance India’s role in the global clean energy supply chain.
