Amazon, HPCL Expand ‘Project Ashray’ With 40 New Rest Centers For Delivery Partners

Amazon now operates 65 Ashray Centers in 13 cities, bringing it closer to its goal of establishing 100 such facilities by the end of 2025

Amazon India, in collaboration with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (HPCL), has expanded its ‘Project Ashray’ initiative with the launch of 40 new Ashray Centers across the country. The expansion was marked by the inauguration of a new center in Delhi’s Rohini area by Yogender Chandoliya, Member of Parliament from Delhi North-west.

With this addition, Amazon now operates 65 Ashray Centers in 13 cities, bringing it closer to its goal of establishing 100 such facilities by the end of 2025. In Delhi NCR alone, the company runs 24 Ashray Centers.
Designed as dedicated rest stops, the Ashray Centers provide air-conditioned seating, clean drinking water, mobile charging points, washrooms, and first-aid kits. Importantly, the facilities are free and open to all delivery partners, not just those working with Amazon. Since their launch in late 2024, the centers have seen a 70 per cent increase in usage.

Chandoliya lauded the initiative, stating: “Project Ashray is precisely what India’s rapidly expanding gig economy requires. These centres provide essential support to delivery professionals who connect businesses with millions of households daily.”

Salim Memon, Director, Amazon Operations, India, underlined the company’s focus on delivery partners’ welfare: “By providing essential amenities and opening these facilities to all delivery personnel, we’re reinforcing our commitment to the frontline workers who power India’s digital economy.”

HPCL’s Executive Director, Non-Fuel Business, Muralikrishna V Vadrevu, highlighted the collaboration’s significance: “By reimagining our fuel stations with Amazon, we’re creating essential havens for delivery partners across India. These Ashray centers reflect our commitment to supporting the gig economy workforce with dignity.”

The expansion of Ashray Centers comes as Amazon prepares for the festive season. The e-commerce giant recently announced the creation of over 150,000 seasonal work opportunities across its operations network, including fulfilment centres, sort centres, and last-mile delivery hubs in more than 400 cities.

The hiring drive spans metros and tier-2 and tier-3 cities, including Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Lucknow, Coimbatore, Indore, Raipur, Jalandhar, Ranchi, Anantnag, and Jalgaon. Amazon said a significant share of these roles have been filled by women associates and more than 2,000 persons with disabilities (PwD).
