Amazon Launches Programme For Deliveries Via EV’s In India
The all-electric fleet initiative in India not only provides DSPs with customised last-mile delivery EVs but also covers maintenance, charging infrastructure, and parking facilities
E-commerce giant Amazon has unveiled its last-mile fleet programme in India, featuring an all-electric vehicle (EV) lineup, as it seeks to offer delivery service providers access to custom-designed EVs for efficient last-mile deliveries.
In the initial phase, Amazon has introduced Mahindra Zor Grand three-wheeler EVs, specifically enhanced for Amazon’s last-mile delivery operations. The programme aims to support over 300 delivery service partners (DSPs) in conducting customer deliveries with zero tailpipe emissions.
Amazon’s statement noted, “Amazon’s fleet programme is debuting in India for the first time with entirely custom-designed EVs, making it convenient for DSPs to access safe, high-quality zero-emission vehicles for last-mile deliveries.”
The all-electric fleet initiative in India not only provides DSPs with customised last-mile delivery EVs but also covers maintenance, charging infrastructure, and parking facilities.
Over the next two years, Amazon plans to expand the programme to encompass a significant portion of its last-mile delivery vans, ultimately transitioning the entire last-mile van fleet to EVs.
With the support of Mahindra Electric and other vehicle manufacturers, Amazon has already deployed over 6,000 EVs to carry out deliveries in more than 400 cities across India. The company is on track to achieve its goal of incorporating 10,000 electric vehicles into its India fleet by 2025.
The introduction of the programme in India aligns with Amazon’s global sustainability objectives, including its target to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2040.
This initiative is launched ahead of the busy Diwali season, and Amazon plans to add more electric three- and four-wheelers to the fleet as it progresses.
Amazon has successfully implemented similar last-mile fleet programmes in North America and Europe. Abhinav Singh, VP of Operations at Amazon India, expressed his satisfaction with the launch in India, emphasising that it enables their delivery service partners to decarbonize alongside Amazon.
