Cairn Oil & Gas Achieves 229,000 Tonne of CO2 Reduction In 4 Years

Cairn Oil & Gas, part of the Vedanta Group, said that it has made significant strides in its commitment to achieve net zero by 2030. The company’s FY24 sustainability report reveals it has reduced 229,000 tonne of CO2 over the past four years, equivalent to saving over 12 million trees. In FY24 alone, Cairn achieved a reduction of 119,000 tonne CO2.
Cairn’s environmental achievements also include completing feasibility studies for Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCuS) and committing to planting 2 million trees by 2030. The company has already partnered with forest departments in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Andhra Pradesh for the plantation of 1 million trees.
The company also reported being net water positive, with a 96 per cent recycling rate for produced water, surpassing global benchmarks.
In addition to environmental progress, Cairn’s CSR initiatives impacted 24.9 million lives in FY24, through projects like E-kaksha, which provided digital education to 23.5 million students. The company also reduced its Total Recordable Injury Frequency Rate (TRIFR) by 77 per cent over the last four years, highlighting its focus on employee safety.
