Diageo India Starts Wash Projects In Goa

In collaboration with BharatCares, Diageo India inaugurates two wash projects in Ponda, benefitting 85 students and faculty in local schools

In a step towards improving community well-being, Diageo India (United Spirits), one of the country’s leading alco-bev companies, has started two water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) projects in collaboration with BharatCares, the social impact arm of the CSRBOX group.

The two wash projects, located at Government Primary Schools in Bethoda and Mestwada, aim to enhance the lives of 85 students and faculty members by providing access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation facilities. At the Government Primary School in Bethoda, the focus is on renovating school facilities, upgrading drinking water systems, and improving sanitation infrastructure. In Mestwada, the project will involve infrastructure upgrades and the establishment of a dedicated drinking water station for students.

Navdeep Singh Mehram, Vice President, CSR and Sustainability at Diageo India, highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainable water solutions through its ‘Spirit of Progress’ ESG action plan. “Access to clean water and proper sanitation is essential for community well-being, particularly for young students. Through these WASH initiatives, we are not only ensuring a conducive learning environment but also empowering communities with sustainable water solutions,” said Mehram.

Abhishek Tyagi, AVP – Social Impact Programs at BharatCares, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration. “This wash project will have a lasting impact by providing access to clean water and sanitation facilities, improving health outcomes, and enhancing the quality of life for the community, particularly women and children,” he said.

Vandita Paresh Naik, Principal of Government Primary School, Bethoda, shared her gratitude: “The newly renovated facilities will make a huge difference for our students, ensuring they have access to clean drinking water and improved sanitation, which will enhance their well-being and learning experience.”
