Egis’ Aranaya Initiative To Promote Environmental Sustainability In India

Egis India, in partnership with Hara Jeevan, makes significant strides in greening Gurgaon with over 50,000 saplings planted, aiming for 100,000 by year-end
Egis, a global player in architecture, consulting, construction engineering, and mobility services, said that it continues its commitment to environmental sustainability through its flagship green initiative, Aranaya. Started in India in 2022, the initiative focuses on combating climate change and promoting sustainability by transforming designated areas into flourishing green spaces. In collaboration with the NGO partner Hara Jeevan, Egis India’s EgisCleanAndGreen initiative in Gurgaon has made significant progress toward environmental conservation, as per a press release.
The initiative was rolled out in three phases, each contributing to creating a cleaner, greener environment. The first phase began with a large-scale cleanliness drive along National Highway 8 (NH-8), where volunteers from both Egis India and Hara Jeevan joined forces to remove plastic waste, eradicate weeds, and collect dried leaves for composting. This initial phase laid the groundwork for the larger green initiative, ensuring the area was cleared of waste and prepared for future plantation efforts.
In the second phase, more than 100 volunteers, including senior management from Egis, participated in a major plantation drive in the green zone named ‘Aranaya.’ The focus of this phase was on planting a variety of ayurvedic and medicinal plants, such as Neem, Peepal, and Bargad trees. Beyond plantation, several eco-friendly initiatives were implemented, including eco-fencing, the creation of eco-bricks, installation of artificial bird nests, and providing water sources for local birds. The team also creatively repurposed tree logs and other waste materials to further enrich the ecosystem, ensuring a sustainable and self-sufficient green space.
The third phase introduced ‘Aranaya 2.0’, with the total number of saplings planted across the two green zones exceeding 50,000. This includes a wide variety of tree saplings, such as Millettia, Jarul, and Goolar, alongside shrubs like Raat ke Rani, Chandini, and Vajradanti. With the aim of planting 100,000 saplings by the end of the year, Egis has set an ambitious target to expand its green spaces further. As part of its commitment, the company has also started the ‘One Employee, One Plant’ campaign, which encourages every employee to contribute to the greening efforts by planting a sapling.
Alongside these large-scale initiatives, Egis organizes regular environmental awareness campaigns. These campaigns engage local communities and students, aiming to educate them about environmental conservation practices such as plastic waste management, recycling, and waste segregation. By involving participants in hands-on activities like tree plantation drives and area clean-up efforts, Egis fosters a sense of shared responsibility and encourages sustainable practices in everyday life.
Sandeep Gulati, Managing Director of Egis India and South Asia, expressed pride in the initiative: “At Egis Group, we are deeply committed to fostering community engagement and supporting sustainable practices across all our business operations. Through initiatives like Aranaya and Aranaya 2.0, we aim to create a lasting positive impact on the environment. Our employees are fully dedicated to nurturing this collective effort to address climate change and build a healthier, more sustainable future for generations to come.”
