GMR Airports (GAL), operator of major airports in Delhi, Hyderabad, Goa, and Medan (Indonesia), said on Monday that it has joined the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC), a leading corporate sustainability initiative. As per the company, the move underscores its commitment to sustainability, as it aligns its operations with the Ten Principles of the UNGC, covering areas such as human rights, labor standards, environmental protection, and anti-corruption.

As part of its ongoing expansion, GAL operates airports in India and abroad and is also extending its expertise to Mactan Cebu International Airport in the Philippines. In addition, the company is actively developing new airports in Bhogapuram (Visakhapatnam) and Crete (Greece).

Kiran Kumar Grandhi, CEO and Managing Director of GMR Airports, highlighted the significance of the UNGC membership, stating, “Joining the UNGC marks a pivotal step in our journey towards becoming a global leader in sustainable aviation.”

Notably, all GMR airports are certified as green buildings by prominent authorities, such as the US Green Building Council (USGBC) and the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), as per the media reports. In FY24, the company served over 121 million passengers, further solidifying its role as a major player in the global aviation sector while emphasizing environmental responsibility.
