The company strengthens its position as India’s second-largest float glass manufacturer with a Rs 2,500 crore investment in a new facility in Karnataka
Gold Plus Glass Industry, India’s second-largest float glass manufacturer, has commissioned its new manufacturing facility in Karnataka. The expansion includes the addition of 584,000 metric tons per annum in float glass manufacturing capacity and 109,500 metric tonne per annum in solar glass production. With this development, Gold Plus further solidifies its market leadership and enters the growing solar glass sector.
The Karnataka facility achieved its commercial operations date (COD) in June 2024. The total investment in the project amounts to Rs 2,500 crore, showing the commitment of the company to innovation and growth in the Indian glass manufacturing industry, as per a press release. With the new facility, the company’s total installed float glass capacity now exceeds 1 million metric tons annually, reaching 1,040,250 metric tons per annum. The solar glass manufacturing capacity at the facility marks a new chapter in the company’s diversification strategy.
Gold Plus now commands a 26.1 per cent share of India’s total float glass industry capacity, according to a CRISIL report from January 2024. The new facility not only enhances the company’s float glass production but also positions it strategically to serve the renewable energy market with solar glass—a crucial component in India’s growing solar power sector, said the company.
“We are proud to announce the commissioning of our Karnataka facility, which marks a major step forward in our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and growth. This expansion reflects our ongoing dedication to meeting the evolving needs of industries from real estate to renewable energy, and to supporting India’s economic and environmental goals,” said Jimmy Tyagi, CEO of Gold Plus Glass Industry.
The Karnataka facility enhances Gold Plus’ ability to meet the rising demand for high-quality glass products while fostering sustainable growth in the manufacturing sector. With this milestone, the company continues to play a key role in reshaping India’s glass manufacturing landscape.
