India Adds Record 44.5 GW Renewable Capacity In 2025, Solar Leads Growth

Total clean energy capacity rises over 23 per cent year-on-year as solar and wind additions accelerate

India added a record 44.5 gigawatt of renewable energy capacity during 2025 till November, led by strong growth in solar installations, according to an official statement issued by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy on Monday.

The country’s total renewable energy installed capacity stood at 253.96 GW in November 2025, marking an increase of more than 23 per cent from 205.52 GW recorded in the same period last year, the ministry said.

This is the highest renewable capacity addition recorded in any single year so far. The 44.51 GW added during the first eleven months of 2025 is nearly double the 24.72 GW added during the corresponding period in 2024.

Solar power accounted for the largest share of the expansion. Solar capacity additions reached 34.98 GW during the period, compared with 20.85 GW added a year earlier. The total installed solar capacity rose to 132.85 GW in November 2025, up more than 41 per cent from 94.17 GW in November 2024.

Wind power also registered steady growth, with capacity additions of 5.82 GW during the year so far, compared with 3.2 GW added in the same period last year. India’s wind energy installed capacity crossed the 50 GW milestone in March 2025 and reached 53.99 GW in November, an increase of over 12.5 per cent from 47.96 GW a year earlier.

Officials said the strong pace of additions reflects continued policy support and rising investment in clean energy, as India works towards its long-term renewable energy and climate commitments.
