With an estimated 1 crore EVs sold year, India is expected to see a significant increase in EV sales. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari estimates that by 2030, the EV market will help create about 5 crore new jobs. During his speech at the 19 EV Expo 2023, Gadkari emphasised that India already has 34.54 lakh registered electric vehicles (EVs) according to the Vahan database.
Gadkari, who is also the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, emphasised India’s potential to become the world’s largest manufacturer of electric vehicles (EVs) and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to promoting self-sufficiency in the nation’s production of clean energy and its broad implementation. According to him, the government has approved the conversion of current polluting cars into hybrid and all-electric models after rules were finalised and technological demonstrations were successful.
Underlining a larger commitment to greener and more sustainable transportation methods, Gadkari presented the government’s strategic strategy to switch public transportation and logistics to electric vehicles. The minister’s comments highlight a deliberate attempt to put India at the forefront of the quickly growing worldwide electric vehicle sector.
