India’s $2 Billion Hydrogen Bonanza Draws Intense Industry Interest

Companies like Waaree Energies, Ohmium Operations, Advait Infratech and Acme Cleantech Solutions are competing for a share of the lucrative electrolyser manufacturing segment

Major industrial giants are engaged in intense rivalry as a result of India’s ambitious green hydrogen plan, which is supported by a hefty USD 2 billion incentive scheme.

The 14 businesses competing for profitable contracts to produce green hydrogen include Reliance Industries, JSW Energy, Torrent Power, and Bharat Petroleum. This is a high-stakes competition.

The fabrication of electrolysers, a crucial technology supporting the creation of green hydrogen, becomes a new front in the battleground. Adani Group, Jindal India, Larsen & Toubro, and Bharat Heavy Electricals are just a few of the notable 20 corporations that have entered the race for incentives related to the manufacturing of electrolysers. Overwhelming industry interest was evident when bids for a massive 3.4 GW of electrolyser capacity poured in, exceeding the initial call for 1.5 GW.

With this positive response, India’s ambitious goal of producing a staggering 5 million tonnes of green hydrogen annually by 2030 is off to a good start. The nation is moving forward in the clean energy sector as major players in the industry, such as Acme Cleantech, Sembcorp Green Hydrogen, CESC, Greenko ZeroC, and Avaada GreenH2, are vying for contracts to produce green hydrogen.

companies like Waaree Energies, Ohmium Operations, Advait Infratech, and Acme Cleantech Solutions are competing for a share of the lucrative electrolyser manufacturing segment. This surge of interest signals the emergence of a robust domestic electrolyser manufacturing ecosystem, a crucial stride towards self-sufficiency in this nascent sector.

After the bidding procedure is over, focus turns to SECI’s assessment and contract awarding of the desired projects. The chosen champions are accountable for achieving the project’s short-term objectives, but they also have the power to direct India’s green hydrogen revolution and set the country on the path to a more sustainable and clean future..
