India’s Green Energy Transition Takes Center Stage At ICC’s 13th Green Energy Summit

ICC introduces ‘Knowledge Paper’ on sustainable energy transition as experts discuss pathways to a net-zero future by 2070
The Indian Chamber of Commerce (ICC) recently hosted its thirteenth Green Energy Summit, focusing on India’s crucial role in the global green energy transition. Themed ‘Green Energy Transition: India’s Moment of Opportunity,’ the summit highlighted key issues such as nuclear energy, solar energy equipment manufacturing, battery storage solutions, and coal gasification.
A major highlight of the event was the introduction of the Knowledge Paper titled ‘Advancing sustainable energy transition – pathway for net-zero future in India,’ which outlined strategies for accelerating India’s shift from fossil fuels to green energy. The paper explored technological enablers, policy frameworks, and the socio-economic challenges of the transition, emphasizing the importance of clean energy for decarbonizing the power grid and promoting green hydrogen production.
The document also recommended strategic funding, the adoption of emerging technologies such as Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS), and the importance of local manufacturing to meet ambitious renewable energy targets. Key recommendations included adding 40-50 GW of renewable capacity annually and expanding hydro and nuclear capacity, with a particular focus on the timely completion of underdeveloped projects.
Prominent industry leaders and policymakers participated in the summit, including Mr. Anil Razdan, Former Secretary, Power, Government of India, and Mr. Kush Singh, Co-Chair of ICC’s National Expert Committee on Energy and Head-Power at RPSG Group. They discussed India’s roadmap to achieving its net-zero goal by 2070 and the need for synchronized efforts across all sectors.
The event also featured the fifth Green Urja and Energy Efficiency Awards, which celebrated outstanding contributions in renewable energy. Winners included Tata Capital Ltd, Berger Paints India, and Adani Green Energy.
The summit underscored India’s commitment to a sustainable energy future and outlined actionable steps to ensure the nation plays a leading role in the global energy transition.
