Jacobi Group Unveils Carbonizer Technology For Sustainable Manufacturing

New carbonization technology reduces emissions and generates clean energy, reinforcing Jacobi Group’s commitment to environmental stewardship and innovation

The Jacobi Group of Companies has started its revolutionary Carbonizer technology, setting new standards in sustainable manufacturing. The cutting-edge machine, inaugurated by Christian Kamill, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in India, and  Remko Goudappel, CEO of Jacobi Group, was unveiled in the presence of local dignitaries, including Antony Thomas, Managing Director of Jacobi Carbons India Operations.

The event also marked the launch of a significant CSR initiative—a government-collaborated ration shop aimed at providing essential goods to underserved communities, furthering Jacobi’s mission of contributing to the community’s growth.

Jacobi’s Carbonizer technology redefines the carbonization process by significantly reducing emissions and enhancing energy efficiency. Using renewable coconut shells as input, the Carbonizer produces high-quality charcoal with minimal environmental impact. It captures volatile gases released during the carbonization process, repurposing them into clean energy that powers Jacobi’s manufacturing facilities. This innovation supports Jacobi’s commitment to sustainability, driving a circular economy by reducing reliance on external energy sources.

“Our Carbonizer technology represents a leap forward in sustainable manufacturing,” said Remko Goudappel, Global CEO of Jacobi Group. “Not only does it transform how charcoal is produced, but it also highlights our dedication to innovation and environmental responsibility. At Jacobi, we believe that progress starts with rethinking processes and pushing the boundaries of sustainability.”

The Carbonizer is designed to process 2,700 metric tons of coconut shells annually, converting them into 970 metric tons of charcoal with minimal emissions. During the carbonization process, the coconut shells undergo pyrolysis, releasing biogas that is used to fuel the Carbonizer. Excess heat generated during the process is converted into steam, powering a turbine that generates 400KWh of clean electricity, reducing the plant’s dependence on external energy sources.

The technology has significant operational benefits, offering energy savings of up to 85-90 per cent and reducing operational costs by up to 80% annually for coconut shell charcoal producers. The clean energy generated not only powers the Carbonizer but also supports Jacobi’s broader production facilities, making it an ideal solution for industries such as energy, manufacturing, and agriculture.

This innovative approach underscores Jacobi’s leadership in promoting environmental sustainability and solidifies its commitment to corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility (ESR) goals. By pioneering energy recovery and minimizing greenhouse gas emissions, Jacobi is reshaping the activated carbon industry with a sustainable, eco-conscious approach.
