Jindal Stainless Releases First TNFD Aligned Report On Nature Related Risks

The company outlines its approach to managing biodiversity and environmental impacts, following the TNFD framework and international sustainability standards

Jindal Stainless (JSL) has published its first Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) report, detailing its approach to managing nature-related risks and opportunities. The report is aligned with emerging global sustainability standards, including the TNFD framework and guidelines from the International Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB).

JSL’s report outlines its efforts to integrate environmental considerations into its operations, focusing on the company’s dependence on natural resources, biodiversity, and efforts to address environmental impacts. It covers direct operations at its Jajpur, Hisar, and Vizag plants, as well as its broader value chain, including key suppliers and customers.

Using the locate, evaluate, assess, and prepare framework, JSL has identified and assessed risks related to biodiversity loss, water usage, and resource extraction. The company has also engaged local communities near its plants to inform its risk assessment process.

The report includes key metrics on water consumption, greenhouse gas emissions, waste management, and biodiversity. JSL has set targets to track its environmental performance and address its impacts on ecosystems.

Governance around these issues is overseen by JSL’s Board of Directors, which reviews nature-related risks quarterly through its ESG Committee. The company’s Chief Sustainability Officer provides updates on the progress of its sustainability initiatives, and nature-related risks are integrated into the broader risk management framework.

Looking ahead, JSL plans to expand its nature-related assessments to its value chain, with a focus on understanding risks and opportunities among suppliers and customers. The company is also working to refine its Biodiversity Risk Assessments and Biodiversity Management Plans at its facilities.

The report marks an initial step in JSL’s efforts to align its operations with global sustainability frameworks, with plans to broaden its focus on nature-related risks and incorporate them into its long-term business strategy.
