KP Group Signs MoU With Botswana Govt For $4 Bn Renewable Energy Projects

MoU envisages USD 4 billion investment to develop up to five GW renewable capacity and strengthen regional power transmission

KP Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Government of the Republic of Botswana to collaborate on the development of large-scale renewable energy generation, energy storage and transmission infrastructure.

The MoU was signed between Botswana’s Ministry of Minerals and Energy and KP Group, which includes KPI Green Energy, KP Energy and KP Green Engineering. The agreement sets out a framework for cooperation on the planning, development and implementation of renewable energy projects and associated transmission infrastructure.

According to the companies, the collaboration is aimed at strengthening Botswana’s energy security and supporting its plans to expand clean energy capacity, while also enabling the country to emerge as a regional exporter of renewable power.

Under the MoU, the proposed projects are expected to require capital investment of around USD 4 billion, or approximately Rs 36,000 crore. The projects could help raise Botswana’s renewable energy capacity to nearly five gigawatt (GW).

The agreement also includes plans to upgrade and construct high-voltage transmission lines within Botswana, along with strengthening cross-border interconnections to facilitate regional power transmission.

As part of the collaboration, KP Group will support 30 scholarships each year for citizens of Botswana in areas related to renewable energy, engineering, sustainability and allied fields. The initiative is intended to build local skills and support workforce development linked to the country’s clean energy transition.
