L&T, Japan’s ITOCHU Collaborate On Green Ammonia Project In Gujarat

ITOCHU intends to purchase the green ammonia for bunkering uses in Singapore, facilitating the worldwide transition to low-carbon shipping fuels
L&T Energy GreenTech (LTEG) and Japan’s ITOCHU Corporation have entered into a joint development agreement to establish and commercialise a 300 kilo tonne per annum (KTPA) green ammonia plant in Kandla, Gujarat, focusing on opportunities in the maritime industry.
The initiative will be executed on the land obtained by the parent company Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in Kandla last year. Through the partnership, ITOCHU intends to purchase the green ammonia for bunkering uses in Singapore, facilitating the worldwide transition to low-carbon shipping fuels.
LTEG, a fully owned division of L&T, is leading the group’s sustainable energy initiatives, concentrating on green hydrogen, ammonia, and renewable energy projects. This effort signifies L&T’s larger strategy to actively participate in India’s clean energy shift and engage in new global supply networks for sustainable fuels.
The agreement highlights L&T’s aim to establish itself as a key participant in the decarbonisation of challenging sectors like shipping.
