Marico Marks International Day Of Forests By Planting 2.25 Lakh Saplings Across India

The company’s afforestation programme covers 200 acres in Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu, enhancing biodiversity and livelihoods
On the occasion of International Day of Forests, Marico, one of India’s leading FMCG companies, highlighted its environmental sustainability and agrarian community development. The company said that it has successfully planted 2.25 lakh saplings across key regions, including Jalgaon, Sanand, and Perundurai. This marks a significant milestone in Marico’s afforestation efforts, which have covered a total of 200 acres of land.
The afforestation initiative, a key part of Marico’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, aims to improve biodiversity, restore soil health, and increase green cover in local communities. Through the program, Marico said it has seen an increase in native bird species and small mammals, contributing positively to the local ecosystem.
A key aspect of the initiative is its innovative use of sustainable planting techniques. These include drip irrigation powered by solar energy, agroforestry models, and the central plantation of fruit trees. These methods not only boost forest cover but also provide income-generation opportunities for local farmers, ensuring long-term economic sustainability.
In addition to environmental benefits, Marico’s claimed that its afforestation efforts create valuable livelihood opportunities for farmers and self-help groups (SHGs), contributing to the overall well-being of the local community. The company has also employed climate-resilient crops like Moringa, and has utilized the Miyawaki technique to maximize the growth of forests.
Amit Bhasin, Chief Legal Officer, Group General Counsel, Secretary, CSR Committee at Marico, commented, “Our afforestation initiatives demonstrate our deep-rooted commitment to creating a positive impact on both the environment and the communities we serve. By integrating innovative techniques, water management, and community participation, we are ensuring that our green initiatives leave a lasting legacy for future generations. Our focus on promoting eco-friendly agriculture and enhancing livelihoods in local communities reflects our commitment to building a more resilient and equitable future.”
Marico said that its afforestation program also enjoys active participation from local communities, ensuring its success and long-term sustainability. Employee volunteering and awareness campaigns further engage people in forest conservation, strengthening the company’s environmental stewardship.
