Meenakshi Energy’s 1,000 MW Plant Fully Operational In Andhra Pradesh

Plant to strengthen power reliability and boost industrial growth in southern India

Vedanta’s subsidiary Meenakshi Energy (MEL) has brought its 1,000-megawatt thermal power plant at Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, to full operational capacity, reinforcing its role in India’s energy security.

The plant, acquired by Vedanta two years ago, comprises two units of 350 MW and two units of 150 MW. Both 150 MW units were stabilised and operational earlier this year, while the two 350 MW units were commissioned this month. With all four units now running, the facility is poised to deliver dependable base load power to the southern grid.

The Tirupati plant is expected to enhance power reliability across Andhra Pradesh and neighbouring states, supporting regional industries and reducing volatility in electricity supply. Industrial clusters in the region are projected to benefit from improved access to stable energy, enabling smoother operations and expansion plans.

Beyond regional benefits, MEL’s ramp-up adds to Vedanta’s broader push to strengthen its power portfolio. The company is positioning the plant as an efficient and sustainability-driven asset that aligns with India’s goal of securing reliable, cost-effective energy for growth.
The full operationalisation of the 1,000 MW facility marks a significant milestone for Vedanta’s power business, positioning MEL as a key contributor to the country’s industrial and energy landscape.
