Morena Solar Storage Project Delivers Power At Rs 2.70 A Unit

CM Mohan Yadav says Morena project shows renewable energy with storage can rival conventional power and guide future developments

Madhya Pradesh has operationalised a solar-plus-storage project in Morena, supplying firm renewable energy at Rs 2.70 a unit. The project, dedicated during‘Seva Pakhwada’ programme, is being seen as a significant addition to India’s renewable energy capacity.

The project combines solar generation with battery storage to maintain steady supply during morning and evening peak hours. It records an annual availability of 95 per cent, higher than the 85 per cent associated with earlier renewable projects.

According to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, the project demonstrates that renewable energy paired with storage can be cost competitive with conventional sources. He noted that the Morena facility could serve as a model for future projects across the country.

The park has been developed by Rewa Ultra Mega Solar (RUMSL). Its structure includes real-time generation of up to 220 MW, two-hour evening storage, and two-hour morning storage, with batteries charged overnight by the grid.

The initiative is among the first in India to deliver dispatchable renewable energy at scale and is expected to inform the design of upcoming storage-linked projects.
