NLC India Nears Electrolyser Procurement For 4 MW Green Hydrogen Pilot In Tamil Nadu

Pilot project to produce 300 kg of high-purity hydrogen daily under National Green Hydrogen Mission

NLC India (NLCIL) is in the final stages of procuring electrolysers for its 4 megawatt (MW) green hydrogen pilot project at Neyveli in Tamil Nadu, Chairman and Managing Director Prasanna Kumar Motupalli said on Friday.

The Navratna public sector company will use solar power as input for the project, which is designed to produce 300 kilogram of hydrogen a day at 99.999 per cent purity. The plant will operate during daytime and is positioned as an early step in India’s green hydrogen economy.
“On commissioning, this will position NLCIL among the early movers in the country’s green hydrogen economy, paving the way for large-scale adoption in future,” Motupalli said.

The initiative is part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, which seeks to establish India as a global hub for production and technology in the sector.

Established in 1956, NLCIL has grown from a lignite mining and power generation enterprise into a diversified energy company with presence in coal mining and renewables. It currently supplies electricity to Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana and Rajasthan. The company has set a target to achieve 104.35 million tonne per annum mining capacity and more than 10 gigawatts each in thermal and renewable power by 2030.
