Nova Institute Appoints Lars Börger As Co CEO

New leadership team to guide the institute’s ongoing efforts in renewable carbon and industry transformation

Nova Institute has declared the appointment of Lars Börger as Co-Chief  Executive Officer, effective first of March 2025. Börger will join Michael Carus, the current CEO, in leading the institute’s work in advancing sustainability within the chemicals, plastics, and materials sectors.

Börger brings a strong background in renewable carbon, having spent nearly 20 years at BASF and serving as vice president of Renewable Polymers & Chemicals at Neste. He has been involved in the Renewable Carbon Initiative (RCI) and has held roles in European Bioplastics. His experience aligns with Nova-Institute’s mission to support the chemical and materials industries in their transition towards more sustainable practices.

With more than 30 years of research and consultancy in renewable carbon and defossilisation, nova-Institute continues to explore solutions for the sector’s evolving challenges. This includes developing appropriate policy frameworks and addressing the demand for new, sustainable solutions.

Both Börger and Michael Carus will work alongside COO Linda Engel to continue supporting companies, policy makers, and associations with research and consultancy in areas such as sustainability, technology, markets, and policy.
