Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre & HICC Launch Solar Power Initiative To Enhance Sustainability

The hotel complex installs a new solar energy system to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs, marking a significant step towards eco-friendly operations
Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre (NHCC) and Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) have introduced a solar power system as part of their ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The newly installed system features 1,818 solar panels spread across 48,904 square feet, with a total capacity of 1000 KWp. This installation is expected to generate 4,000 electricity per day and 1,460,000 units annually, covering approximately 50 per cent of HICC’s energy consumption.
The solar power system is projected to reduce CO2 emissions by 1,022 tons annually, contributing to the hotel’s environmental goals. The Rs 2.6 crore investment in the project is expected to result in annual savings of Rs 1.17 crore, with a return on investment (ROI) of 2.22 years.
Rubin Cherian, General Manager of NHCC & HICC, noted, “The installation of our solar power system represents a significant step towards integrating renewable energy into our operations. This project reflects our ongoing commitment to sustainability and aligns with Accor’s global focus on responsible hospitality.”
In addition to the solar power system, NHCC & HICC have implemented other sustainable initiatives, including atmospheric water generation technology and food waste management through Orbisk technology. The property also utilises a dual solar power and water heating system, providing energy-efficient solutions for both electricity and water heating needs.
As per the press release, the solar energy project is part of the hotel’s broader sustainability framework, which has also earned the prestigious Green Key Certification. These efforts contribute to the growing renewable energy movement in India while ensuring a high level of service for guests.
With this move, NHCC & HICC continue to advance their sustainability goals, balancing environmental responsibility with operational efficiency.
