Odisha Discoms Launch Rs 15,000 Rooftop Solar Scheme For Households

Utility-led model to cut power bills, boost green energy adoption

Tata Power-led Odisha power distribution companies (discoms) have launched a 1-kilowatt (kW) rooftop solar scheme for households, enabling consumers to generate around 100 units of electricity every month, according to PTI.

The initiative, rolled out on Monday under the government’s flagship PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, is based on the Utility-Led Aggregation (ULA) model. While setting up a 1-kW rooftop system typically costs Rs 65,000–75,000, consumers under this scheme will only need to make a one-time payment of Rs 15,000. The balance will be met through central and state subsidies, aggregated and facilitated by the discoms.

“With a 1-kW rooftop solar system, households can generate around 100 units of electricity per month, leading to average annual savings of nearly Rs 25,000. This translates into consistent relief in monthly electricity bills while supporting Odisha’s renewable energy ambitions,” said Gajanan S Kale, Chief, Odisha Distribution Business, Tata Power.

The discoms will oversee end-to-end execution, including installation, quality checks and after-sales service. Consumers will also benefit from a five-year warranty on system components and a 25-year warranty on the solar panels, the company added.
