ONGC Onboards BP As Technical Services Provider To Boost Production From Mumbai High Field

BP Exploration (Alpha) is chosen as the Technical Services Provider to unlock the full potential of India’s mature offshore oil and gas assets at the Mumbai High field

Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), India’s leading oil and gas producer, has appointed BP Exploration (Alpha), a wholly-owned subsidiary of BP Plc, as the Technical Services Provider (TSP) for the Mumbai High (MH) field, located offshore in the Arabian Sea.

The Mumbai High field, discovered by ONGC in 1974, has been a significant contributor to India’s oil and gas production since it began operations in 1976. Despite several efforts over the years to maintain and enhance production from the mature field, ONGC faces ongoing production challenges. To address these issues, ONGC issued an International Competitive Bidding (ICB) tender seeking a TSP with expertise in managing complex mature reservoirs and implementing advanced recovery technologies.

BP’s extensive experience in managing large-scale oil and gas fields made it the ideal candidate for the role. The TSP will focus on reviewing the field’s performance, identifying improvements across reservoirs, wells, and production facilities, and applying advanced operational practices to enhance recovery and production from the Mumbai High field.

While ONGC continues to pursue new greenfield projects to unlock fresh hydrocarbon resources, maximizing recovery from mature fields like Mumbai High is a critical part of its strategy to meet India’s growing energy demands. With the expertise of BP, ONGC aims to implement cutting-edge techniques to enhance the field’s production capacity and contribute to India’s domestic crude oil and natural gas production.

The move comes as part of ONGC’s ongoing commitment to adopting the best practices and technologies to boost energy output, ensuring that the country’s energy needs are met amidst rapid economic growth.
