PM Modi Lays Foundation Stone For Rs 340 Cr LPG Plant In Gopalganj

By shifting LPG transport from road to rail, the project will significantly reduce carbon emissions
In a push for clean energy infrastructure in Eastern India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a new state-of-the-art LPG Bottling Plant with Rail Unloading Facility at Hathua in Gopalganj District, Bihar. The project, with an investment of Rs 340.15 crore, is part of the government’s continued efforts to enhance energy access, sustainability, and economic development in the region.
Scheduled for completion by 31 March 2027, the plant will have a bottling capacity of 180 thousand metric tons per annum (TMTPA) and feature cutting-edge infrastructure. This includes a dedicated railway siding for efficient LPG receipt and storage, Mounded Storage Vessels (MSV) for enhanced safety, and a 2×24 station electronic carousel for fast, automated bottling operations.
The new facility will help meet the rising demand for LPG in North-West and North-Central Bihar, improving the reliability of domestic and commercial gas supply across the region. With a focus on local impact, the project is expected to generate employment for 1.2 lakh man-days during construction, providing a major economic boost to the local workforce.
Beyond logistics and employment, the plant reflects a strong commitment to sustainability. By shifting LPG transport from road to rail, the project will significantly reduce carbon emissions. Additionally, the inclusion of Vapour Recovery Units will help cut greenhouse gas emissions by an estimated 11,000 metric tonne of CO₂ equivalent annually—comparable to the effect of planting 5 lakh trees.
Once operational, the plant is set to strengthen energy security in Bihar, offering uninterrupted access to a clean cooking fuel while supporting India’s broader goals of clean energy transition, climate resilience, and rural development.
