REC Commits Rs 8.44 Cr For 1MW Solar Power Plant
Under its CSR initiative, REC partners with Gandhigram Rural Institute to establish a multi-technology solar power plant, ensuring energy self-sufficiency and promoting renewable energy research
REC, a Maharatna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, has committed Rs 8.44 Crore under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to support the establishment of a 1MW multi-technology solar photovoltaic power plant at the Gandhigram Rural Institute (GRI) in Dindigul, Tamil Nadu. The project aims to provide sustainable energy solutions for students, research scholars, and faculty while contributing to the institute’s goal of self-reliance in power.
The memorandum of agreement (MoA) was signed on January 9, 2025, between Smt. Thara Ramesh, Chief Project Manager at REC’s Chennai office, and L. Rathakrishnan, Director of Gandhigram Rural Institute, in the esteemed presence of Shri Narayanan Thirupathy, Independent Director at REC.
The groundbreaking solar project, which will be implemented by GRI in technical collaboration with Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), will feature a ground-mounted, grid-connected system utilizing cutting-edge solar panel and inverter technologies. The solar plant will not only meet the energy requirements of the institute but will also serve as a hub for research and development in solar technology.
By enabling energy independence and fostering innovation in renewable energy, this initiative aligns with REC Limited’s broader vision of contributing to the nation’s sustainability goals and enhancing the social welfare of communities.
