Royal Canin Appoints Rémi Rocca As Global Vice President Of Sustainability

Former McDonald’s executive to steer sustainability strategy as Royal Canin targets net-zero emissions and expands regenerative agriculture efforts

Royal Canin, a division of Mars, Incorporated, has named Rémi Rocca as its new Global Vice President of Sustainability. Rocca brings nearly two decades of experience in sustainability, supply chain and corporate affairs, having previously held leadership roles at McDonald’s across France and global markets.

In his new role, Rocca will lead the development and implementation of Royal Canin’s global sustainability strategy, working closely with the company’s sustainability teams and senior leadership. His appointment comes as Royal Canin strengthens its efforts to reduce environmental impact while maintaining its nutritional standards for pet health.

Royal Canin has previously engaged in regenerative agriculture initiatives, including a partnership with Soil Capital that supports more than 220 farmers in France and Belgium. In 2024, the company reported that 86 per cent of its global factory electricity needs were met through renewable energy sources.

“Rémi’s leadership will be important in ensuring Royal Canin continues to align with Mars’ broader climate and sustainability goals, including its ‘Sustainable in a Generation Plan’ and the target of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its full value chain by 2050,” the company said in a statement.

During his tenure at McDonald’s, Rocca led several high-impact initiatives such as plastic packaging reduction, regenerative agriculture platform development, and carbon reduction programmes. He most recently served as Senior Director for Impact, Corporate Communications, Public Affairs, Sustainability, and Philanthropy at McDonald’s France.

Reflecting on his initial months in the role, Rocca said: “I feel a deep connection to Royal Canin’s and Mars’ values: a family-owned business with an ambitious climate commitment, a long-term vision, and a maturity in addressing critical issues. We have big opportunities and challenges ahead in sustainability and will need to continue to partner with our customers, suppliers and our own people to drive meaningful impact.”

Commenting on the appointment, Andy Turner, Global Vice President of Supply Chain and Operations at Royal Canin, said: “We are happy to welcome Rémi to our team. The breadth of his experience at this critical time will enable Royal Canin to continue our sustainability progress aligned with our three focus areas: pets, people, and planet.”
