SBI Signs $116.86 Mn Green Finance Deal With France’s AFD

The funds will be used for projects that help cut greenhouse gas emissions and support communities in adapting to the impacts of climate change
State Bank of India (SBI) has signed a 116.86 million USD [EUR 100 million] Line of Credit agreement with Agence Française de Développement (AFD) at its Gift City branch to boost green financing in India.
The funds will be used for projects that help cut greenhouse gas emissions and support communities in adapting to the impacts of climate change. This will aid India’s shift towards a low-carbon economy and build resilience against climate risks.
The move supports SBI’s goal of increasing its green portfolio to 7.5–10 per cent of its total domestic lending by 2030. The bank plans to use the funding to provide affordable loans for renewable energy, clean technology, and other climate-friendly projects. SBI will also benefit from AFD’s global expertise in climate finance, ESG practices, and innovative project design, ensuring the projects deliver measurable environmental and social benefits.
“This partnership with AFD reinforces SBI’s commitment to financing sustainable growth and supporting impactful climate solutions across India,” said an SBI official.
By partnering with AFD, SBI is not only strengthening its green finance roadmap but also contributing to the national vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
