SGT University To Establish Sudhir Mishra Centre For ESG, Environmental Law & Climate Change

The SMCEC will also feature a dedicated nature and ESG interpretation centre, serving as a platform for students to engage in environmental leadership, advocacy, and policy-making

Gurugram-based SGT University has announced the establishment of the Sudhir Mishra Centre for ESG, Environmental Law & Climate Change (SMCEC) within its Faculty of Law. The centre will be named after Sudhir Mishra, one of India’s foremost environmental lawyers, and aims to become a hub for research, advocacy, and policy development in environmental law, governance, and climate change.

In a letter, Richa Chaudhary, Dean, Faculty of Law, SGT University, wrote, “It is an absolute honour and privilege to apprise you that Faculty of Law, SGT University is going to set up the Sudhir Mishra Centre for ESG, Environmental Law & Climate Change (SMCEC) within our university. The Centre is to be named after the foremost environmental lawyer of the country, Mr. Sudhir Mishra and the centre will be set up within the Faculty of Law, SGT University, which is situated in Gurugram.”

The Faculty of Law at SGT University is recognised as a premier institution for legal education in India, offering undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes. With an emphasis on academic excellence and practical legal training, the faculty integrates theoretical knowledge with hands-on experiences such as internships, moot courts, and industry collaborations. The new centre will further strengthen its commitment to addressing contemporary environmental and governance challenges.

Inspired by the work of the Empowered Committee of the Supreme Court, which has played a significant role in environmental law management and conservation in India, the SMCEC aims to foster interdisciplinary research and community engagement. The centre will serve as a think tank for climate change, ESG governance, and sustainability, focusing on conservation residency programmes and collaborations with embassies, corporate sustainability departments, and pollution control boards.

The SMCEC will also feature a dedicated nature and ESG interpretation centre, serving as a platform for students to engage in environmental leadership, advocacy, and policy-making. By leveraging strategic partnerships and collaborations, the centre aims to shape the future of environmental law and climate governance in India.

SGT University has expressed enthusiasm about working alongside Trust Legal, the law firm founded by Sudhir Mishra, to develop SMCEC into the country’s leading ESG, environmental, and climate law centre. With a vision of promoting legal research and policy formulation in sustainability, the centre is set to become a key institution for environmental leadership in India.
